know that feeling, grew up in MD just outside of DC
90 minutes to Whitetail ski "resort".
And then spent a few years on Long Island, with the 6 hour drive each way to Vermont for Killington and whatnot.
I like my 30 minute drive, which doesn't really change much even in utter crap weather.
