i guess if i have problems in the mtns it will be due to altitude.
will it return to normal operation after returning to denver? or is it permanant damage if something happens?

Planes are pressurized to between 6 and 8 thousand feet depending on the newness of the aircraft. At least thats what my pilot buddy says.

de - are you sure microdrives are sealed?
Most drives aren't, though I know that some new HD development involves sealed drives.
More likely the heads are crashing because of the thin air (==> low fly height ==> skipping off bumps on the disk).
