Planes are pressurized to between 6 and 8 thousand feet depending on the newness of the aircraft. At least thats what my pilot buddy says.

Most drives aren't, though I know that some new HD development involves sealed drives.
More likely the heads are crashing because of the thin air (==> low fly height ==> skipping off bumps on the disk).
