have i missed a thread, yet, or is this it? i know the rmac will be there, but have seen nothing on the site, yet. i am looking forward to seeing you all up there. brian, are you running the A4 Ur quattro this year?
anyhow, i know it's still a month out, but i thought it would be good to throw it out there so folks would be reminded and can start planning. dean, or deanson, can we get a bit on the rmac site?
whistle wetters - world champ stig and his rs200, from 2 seasons ago. last year he drove an sti and i couldn't bring myself to fire the shutter

they're allowing camping on the mountain this year for $100 a "car load". A friend an I are planning on going, we're looking for maybe 1 or 2 others to share the site. I have a large family tent that can easily sleep 6 or so.

i'm taking this year off from racing. the plan was if i had the extra time i would find out what i wanted to do next. i had to buy a yz450f to keep me distracted from entering any races with the car. soon after, i bought a ktm supermoto. so with having the two bikes, all i could think of was where can i race them. i did do the private practice on pikes peak a month ago on the ktm. i made over 9 lower and upper runs, i could not set my own pace but i could follow. it was fun but i'm not up to speed on it yet. plus, i hit a rock @ 80mph going in to bottomless pit, air in to a bad tank slapper. as for the car i had tried to put a different driver in the car for this year but both attempts with the two drivers did not work out. so i think that the plan now is to sell the car. and on to what i think will be the best driving experience of my life. erika and i are planning on circumnavigating the world in a vw tdi. starting in n.amer to s.amer, africa, then across russia and back in to alaska. i think our website is called theinfiniteroad.com... it's not up yet, but it's in the works & we plan to post our adventure by video & text.

i will have to keep an eye out for your site. i am grateful to have been there for seeing that orange beasty run, i wish it wasn't over, but it sounds like you're having fun, anyhow(but,....one wheel drive from quattro is quite a change). you should've tried me out for driver, this year, i'd have liked that ride.
guess you'd be turning inside out as a spectator, but are you gonna?
well, onwards and upwards

the only ones arguing for it staying gravel are the racers. some several hundred tons of gravel are hauled up there every year to replace it, as it gets scattered and washed off the road onto the mountainside. this stuff erodes, runs down gullys where it doesn't belong, chokes groundcover, it is ruining the ecosytem up there, and pavement is really the only long term answer. as much as i love driving that road as gravel(when the rangers aren't looking), as much as i respect the tradition of the second oldest road race in us history, as a gravel/dirt course, i've got to say we lived 'the glory days before,....'
