Default pikes peak hillclimb race day GTG and surprise, anyone interested,....

in joining up with a group of us from the front range area audi/vw groups who are joining up on race day to go up the toll road en masse to the devils playground parking lot, to park as a group, pop hoods, talk, the waddle over to watch the race from a great viewpoint. some of zev's group even talked about a midnight ride, culminating in the meet-up/spectate,....(no comment)(but zev, you & the breakfast king boyz are just about as welcome as can be, and key to a great day)
anyhow, there's a suprise i've concocted up....

ok, here's the surprise, the kicker. I have arranged with my local manitou and favourite coffee house, `spice of life' to host us that morning, before we drive up together. they are going to open at 4:30 am, just for us! they serve wonderful espresso beverages, coffees, and do great breakfasts, as well (i'm down with the lox & bagels, myself). main street manitou springs will also be empty at that time of day except for a bunch of beautiful audis, vw's, and ? the street has just been resurfaced and new lines painted, so this will be a cool photo-op for us as a group.

now, some more details.

the agreed upon cool-guy viewing area for the pikes peak hillclimb is up at devil's playground. year before last, a group of us audi drivers from denver, the pikes peak area, and around, met up in a parking lot, then drove up the canyon here, and up the toll road, to the devil's playground parking lot in a string. the parking folks up there were more than happy to give us our own little area, and it was real cool.

i thought that since the peak is my backyard, i ought to figure out a way to `host' you all, here in manitou. get us all coffee'd up, fed, introduced to each other, take some group pics for the websites, and then drive on up en masse, representing our VAG cars (bentleys, lambourghinis, seats, skodas are all welcome, not just audis & vw's, porsches too, dan). so it's happening.

the café, spice of life, will be opening up two and a half hours early, 4:30 am, just for the sake of our little meet-up! ain't that cool? we should be driving out of manitou for the peak by something like 6 am, so that gives folks a chance to trickle in at their own pace, relax, drink and eat, race slot cars, and get our main street take-over photographs, all before cruising on up. the spice boys have also a great box lunch they do, and that will be easy for those of us not so organised to be preparing our own. it's like $7.50 for a deli sandwich, salad or chips, cookie, drink. we'll be on the mountain till 3 or 4pm and concessions up there are not at this level.

dig, i'm going to have a 4'x8' slot car track set up to look like pikes peak, so bring a 1:32 car if you have one. I've got some audi's, but I'm a beginner on the slot track. that'll be fun. bring hot wheels too, if you want. this is a family day, so kids and wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, whatever you got.

my three-point-five year old won't be able to make it this year, he'll be in taos. so, I am hoping it will be a success and we'll do it every year, so he can join in the fun next time.

please kinda rsvp(no commitment) me here on the forums or at boki@manitouwatsu.com, so I can give the spice boys a heads up on about how many folks to expect. the race to the clouds is one of the oldest and coolest automobile races in the u.s., and if you haven't done it before, I recommend it. if you have done it before, you know what's up, and it'll be good to see you up there again!

the date is saturday, june 25

in manitou, on main street
is where we'll meet

`spice of life', 727 manitou avenue's the place
to start your day right, before pikes peak starts the race

for those that are looking,
it'll be easy to find,
you'll see lots of sweet cars,
parked all in a line

we'll talk, yadda yadda, drink coffee and eat
and race slot cars, talk tech, till we rise to our feet,
out onto main street for our grand big group photos
then up to pikes peak in our fine automotos

families are welcome, I wish mine could be here
they'll be out of town, but we'll have them next year

so hey all,
trickle in to spice boys at your own pace that morning
when six o'clock nears, we'll have a 'time to leave' warning.

show early for breakfast, or just a pit stop for a cup,
then we'll all climb in cars, and start the drive up!

'spice of life' is the place from 4:30 to 6
but quick up to devil's playground
for the race clock, she ticks

Default I'll be leaving arvada between 4:30 and 5:00 with the goal of making it to

devils playground in time. Assuming we make it up there, would be glad to park the allroad with you guys.

Curious about the surprise???

Is it possible to get down any sooner? I would like to go, but I am not sure I can commit the whole day to it.

Default once you are on the course as a spectator,....

you are stuck there(except for med. emerg. or such). but if you want to participate anyhow, you may be able to park below the start line for the race(most of us will be much nearer the top), you could leave anytime, i suppose. maybe check with race organizers for possibilities, i will
