Not sure all this crap is gonna fit *AND* put skis through the ski sack... maybe I should bite the bullet and get a rack.
Back when I last thought about this, I was leaning towards the Audi base bars, but unsure if they'd play together with any of the aftermarket ski racks. I have a Thule rack on my other vehicle, so there's a slight inclination to get Thule so I can have one key.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Anyone selling theirs?
TIA!

or more importantly confirm that Thule ski racks will fit the Audi base bars. I'm leaning more and more towards Audi base bars and feet just to get the best possible fitment. It actually looks like the Audi 1T0-071-129 ski rack might be the Thule 726 - which is my preferred rack, so maybe I just need to suck it up and pay for Audi stuff

id go into a ski rack store and ask for the number you need, then you can just order it off thules site if its cheaper than in store....
if you're in boulder, id recommend Rocky Mounts

Let's just say I was a rush to get to the slopes a few weeks ago, and managed to catch the ascending garage door with my board. Thankfully the rear carrier gave (good ole ABS plastics), and not my favorite long board or our A6's roof/rack.
I only need to scavenge one part for the busted rear carrier, so even if your carriers have some issues that's probably OK.
Considered scavenging the replacement part off of a new Thule retail carrier. It would work, but I'd rather not blow $120 for a $5 plastic part, so if anyone has an Audi OE or Thule retail carrier/set you'd like to move let me know.
To address the thread, yes Thule definitely manufactures the Audi OE ski/board carriers. The parts are 90% identical. At least for B5 and C5 platform Audis through 2004 compared to the current Thule racks sold at REI and other retail stores.

I busted something on one of my Audi OE bike carriers (mfg by some division of Mont Blanc if I recall). They shipped me a replacement part from Europe no questions asked.
Am hopeful that Thule is that cool when I get around to calling them, but I wouldn't mind some spare parts anyhow if someone has a used set for sale.

about $180/ea from genuinevwaudiparts.com. The newest Audi carrier (1T0-071-129) appears to be the Thule 726 pull out carrier - which is probably the one I wanted anyway.
