Default Suprisingly enough when I went down the first time it was the 17 yo kid that pointed them out to his

manager. I just called a indipendent emissions station in Lakewood (Jerry Emissions) they said that Colorado Air Care has the monopoly on all non disel autos newer than 1984.
Damn!! Thanks for the sugestion though it was worth the try.

Default I found out that you have to go to the state run facilities for Denver county and the majority of

the surrounding counties in order for the emissions test to be valid. Also the guy I spoke with at the DMV will not register a car that was tested outside the county it is being registered in.

Default Yeah, but I just went out and read the sticker

and it says exempt from 2WD dyno testing, not all dyno testing like I thought.

Regardless, here we don't have to get anything <5yrs old tested, and when it is tested, it's the tailpipe sniffer only. Freaking Jiffy Lube did my old car....

Default Have you tried the place off of 44th and Macintyre (spell), Golden?

They seem to have what looks to be a very safe AWD sniffer. It looks like an AWD Dyno with the rollers it has. They've never givin me trouble, but I only have 17"s.

Sorry if this is something you already know or have tried.

Default Remember that "state run" is actually "state licenced"

There ARE independent shops I believe who ARE state licenced to perform this work...... and I mean like the corner gas station!

this COULD be a boulder/weld county issue though.

even if not, I'd try EVERY "colorado air care" facility (and obviously don't SAY anything when you go in) before I started replacing brakes to make it work!

Default hummm you've found me out!

funny how I don't actually LIVE in rural weld county..... but I pay 2.9% sales tax, and don't have to emission test my S4....

Default CAC is the state-sanctioned monopoly.

All late-model vehicles registered in the targeted front range counties (Denver, Jefferson, Adams, Boulder, Douglas, don't know which others) can only get emissions-tested at the CAC load simulating wheel-dyno centers. If you're lucky enough to reside in Weld or other "rural" counties then you can go to the corner shop for an old-fashioned tailpipe check.

It's a scam, scam, scam, and I think it will take legislative action to change it.
