Any other idears on a good primer course without enrolling myself into multiple years of college? Called a few different places, most want enrollment, dont really offer open courses.

Here is what what my uncle told me, get your equipment, then liberate some house for sale signs. Those Realtor signs are great for learning how to weld with and easily obtainable in the wee hours of the morning.
I know that doesn't get you the lessons you want, but it worked for him and he restores old Buick's in his spare time.

My Aunt (said Uncle's wife) is a Realtor too and he was always stealing her signs to learn how to weld.
And no I don't really advocate stealing, but if you happen across one that is lost....
