>From the Colorado SCCA meeting: As you already know, Second Creek
Racetrack's last day is Sunday November 6th. The new track is going to be built right next to Front Range Airport, southeast of DIA and north of I-70.
- Sutton International Motorsports and the Colorado Amateur Motorsports Association (CAMA) www.camplaps.org are working together to do this. Sutton is purchasing 320 acres for the facility, they will build it, and CAMA will be the anchor tenant. There is a 33-page agreement between CAMA and Sutton that is being finalized.
- The permitting process in under way, which includes traffic and sound studies among other things. The zoning and use permits are not approved yet. The entire site is surrounded by FR airport on one side and "Industrial and Transportation" zoned land on all other sides. The only objectors are a neighborhood that is over 2 miles away.
- Alan Wilson is doing preliminary design drawings, which may be done in the next couple weeks. Alan is a very well known track designer. He did the new Miller Motorsports Park in Utah and a lot of others.
- If the permitting goes well, dirt may start moving in the spring of 2006 with track use beginning a year later.
Here is a picture showing where it will be and where Second Creek Racetrack is now. The relative sizes of the two sites are correct.
