Test drove a Mazda 3 this weekend. Nice car for the money...
For laughs I had the dealership (Burt on Arapahoe Rd) appraise my car for trade in. They offered me $500 for it. When I told the manager that came over to "close the deal" to add another zero to the price of my trade in, he acted like I just asked him to kill one of his kids. He could not believe that the car would be worth anything close to that.
Anyway, didn't buy the car, but I may be taking a more serious look at it later this year if I sell my Coupe. Wish Audi would hurry and get the A3 hear and annouce the pricing so I could know if it would even be on my list of possible cars to buy. Although I'm thinking the A3 is going to be priced out of my range. We'll see.

I drove it at the Mazda Rev It Up and liked it a lot.
I thought the car was awesome. The car I drove in the national competition part had eibach springs, falken azenis sports, and a catback exhaust. The car handled so nice, not as much understeer as I was expecting, and the brakes were phenomenal. It definitely felt like it handled and braked better than my car. I liked it so much that I convinced my brother to get one the next weekend, he got the 2.3l auto sedan. The auto tranny can be shifted manually and the motor makes lots of power (160hp). Gotta try talking him into letting me autocross it sometime :-)

No 4-door with the 1.8t engine.
Plus the GTI w/ the 1.8t starts at $19k msrp, can almost get a fully loaded Mazda 3 for that same price (as long as you don't get the pricey navigation). The 4-door Golfs are way short on HP compared to the 3 and their styling is getting a little bland.
Unfortunately the family is going too upscale for my budget at the moment, and buying used isn't something I'm interested in right now (want the warranty, etc.)
