just trying to figure out the reason for a discrepancy. If you research the car online, it comes in with a weight of around 4,600 lbs.
However the window sticker and door frame stickers say that it's more than 6,000 lb.
Anyone know the reason for the discrepancy?

I bet the 4600 pounds is the weight of the car and the 6000 pounds might be the total weight of a fully loaded car......not sure but it would be a reasonable explanation.

From what I can tell, the debate at present is whether the RS6 is 4,600 or 5,000 lbs. I really struggle with the 5,000 lbs estimate, as that puts it into some pretty portly competition. *shrugs*
According to Automobile mag, the weight is 4,575 lbs.
https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2...s-specs-price/
Automobile Catalog agrees.
https://www.automobile-catalog.com/c...rs6_avant.html
According to Audi Canada, unladen weight is 2,250 kg. (4,960 lbs)
https://www.audi.ca/ca/web/en/models..._techdata.html
Gross vehicle weight (GVWR) is 2,740 kg. (6,040 lbs) per Audi Canada. Of course, this includes max cargo weight, and does not indicate the weight of the vehicle alone.

GVWR is the total amount of the weight the vehicle is certified to carry (the 6,000 lbs number). It's largely meaningless number for cars. Much more important on cab chassis vans where you are adding a different body in the back. If curb weight is 4,600 lbs and GVWR is 6,000 lbs, that tells you the car can carry 1,400 lbs of passengers and cargo. You can see why GVWR is only really meaningful for cab chassis or pickup trucks because you are adding more structural weight when you add a different body to the chassis. I can't imagine anyone wants to tear out the back of the RS6 to fit a bus shell and use it as an airport shuttle, or convert it into a cargo van with walk-in cargo box.
Curb weight in different countries varies because each one has a different definition. Some allow car companies to publish "dry weight" without gas in the tank. Some requires the curb weight to include the mass of an average size driver and a full tank of gas. Most allows curb weight to reflect basic weight without options. Some requires max weight with all the options. The point is curb weight is not easily comparable from different countries.

4,960 lbs. is the base curb weight for the RS6 avant.
RS7 is 4,938 lbs..
These cars are INCREDIBLY heavy for their respective classes.
As a point of reference, the 2021 BMW M5 comp. weighs 4,370 lbs.

BMW doesn't publish M5 Comp curb weight because it is an option package on the base M5 model. 4,370 lbs. is probably a little low because M5 (which is the published curb weight) has standard 19" wheels while Comp has 20" wheels.
RS6 and RS7 have standard panoramic sunroof and 21" wheels and tires vs. M5 has standard carbon fiber roof and 19" wheels and tires. Those two things combined are probably 300 lbs. difference. You are also talking about wagon/hatchback vs. sedan, with wagon/hatchback having a lot more window area and sheet metal which weights more than empty air on the sedan. BMW M8, which is a M5 hatchback (bit also with carbon roof) weights roughly 4,500 lbs. So the body style has significant influence on the curb weight. So between sunroof, wheels/tires, and body style, that's roughly 400~500 lbs. of difference. You can have a lighter sedan with no sunroof, or a heavily wagon/hatch with sunroof. Can't have both.
Mercedes E63s wagon has curb weight of 4,669 lbs. so it is 300 lbs. lighter than RS6. But it also has standard 20" wheels and tire instead of standard 21" wheels and tires. Adding bigger wheels will bump E63s wagon over 4,700 lbs.
But overall there is no denying that Audi usually is on the heavy side. This is true nearly across the board, not just on RS6. But I wouldn't say RS6 is incredibly heavy. You have to compare apples to apples.

The base weight of the RS6 is 4575lbs - no driver, fuel tank filled to 90%. No sunroof, no big stereo, no 22" wheels, etc, etc. Start adding features, the weight goes up for everything other than CCB. The US cars are heavily specced. Which means heavy weight, too. The Avant body shape adds around 150lbs over the sedan body shape, on a like for like basis. The real quattro system, ie the permanent self-locking centre differential Torsen based system, has a big torque ceiling, is very quick and direct, but is heavy. Same applies to the fully mechanical Sports diff. Certainly lighter drivetrain options are around if this stuff doesn't matter, although it does to me.
And 6041lbs is the total permitted weight - car, passengers, luggage. Just as 19hole surmised in his earlier post.

The 2021 M5 competition weight is identical to that of BMW's posted weight for the 2020 M5 competition, proven by the fact the weight of the 2021 M5 base model is identical to that of the pre-LCI weight.
The M8 has a base curb weight of 4,295, not 4,500 lbs.
The point being made is that in comparison to its direct competitors, the RS6 and 7 are significantly heavier...for God's sake the A6 Allroad weighs 4,486lbs before options, and the A6 sedan is 4,270...with identical powertrains...these Audi's are HEAVY cars, and that's only a 216lb difference. The RS6 avant is only 22lbs heavier than the RS7, again, completely different body styles.
If you really want to compare apples to apples, both twin turbo V8 Panamera Sport Turismos weigh 4,600 lbs. (Turbo and GTS). Same body, same spec...400 lbs lighter. If you have to have a high performance hatch at this price point? M8 Gran Coupe - 500lbs lighter than the RS7.
The RS cars are supposed to be the ultimate iteration of sport in their respective ranges, but unfortunately, they're stunted by their weight. And yes, you can argue that standard equipment could account for some of the weight variances, but not hundreds upon hundreds of pounds. They are the heaviest cars in these unique categories by some margin.
I absolutely LOVE the RS6 and RS7, but for the same purchase price, I can get "better" performance and an identical amount of utility and desirability in a package that weighs 700lbs less.

I agree with everything you've said...but watch your curb weights!

The curb weight that US website and magazine publish for M8 Gran Coupe is 4,480 lbs. vs. M5 at 4,370 lbs. Both numbers are standard model weight because that's what FMVSS requires car companies to report - meaning in the case of BMW, those weight reflect 19" or 20" wheels and no options. If you delete the sunroof from RS7 (not sure if possible in the US but it is how they are sold in other places) you bring the weight down by about maybe 250~300 lbs. so now you are talking about 4,600 lbs. vs. M8 Gran Coupe at 4,500 lbs. That's not a big difference. The point is how the cars are equipped as standard equipment has a big influence on published curb weight. Apples to apples.
