I have been contacted by a guy in Athens Greece who has a RS6 avant with MMI.
His problem is that he has a Cullmann universal car kit in his car with his Sony Ericson phone.
The steering wheel controls don't work, and the MMI controls don't work (I think it should even read the phone book with the universal kit)....
If he docks his phone, he can dial from it and use the hands free system, but nothing comes up on the MMI screen nor do the steering wheel controls work.
I'm thinking either he has the wrong phone software or phone type for the Cullmann universal cradle, or the MMI is not set up correctly.....he has ordered the ross-tech cable, but can't troubleshoot it right now.
So has anybody ever seen a MMI in a RS6....and if so, did they get the steering wheel controls and head unit to talk to the phone?
Thanks! Here's the pictures he sent me:

I really doubt the factory would have shipped the car without a functioning package.
Who installed the steering wheel?

Audi took the MMI look and feel and grafted it onto a DVD evolution of Navigation Plus.
I don't think it shares much (if any) code-base with A6/A8 MMI, it isn't MOST bus and it doesn't have all the same options as a full MMI system.
That phone display is showing wording I've never seen on the Bluetooth mobile phone preparation kit in the A8, but it suggest to me that the system knows it can't control that phone fully.
Notice how the cradle is corded and plugged into a socket like the phone's own data port under the centre console? To me, that suggesta Cullmann 2nd-generation kit as the 3rd-gen kits use a 2-piece cradle with a flat mounting plate and a cradle that use contact pads like how a SIM and phone contact each other. The Cullmann website has a PDF of supported phones and which cradles they need for the 2nd-gen kit. This lists part number 8D0 051 435 AH for the SE T610 and T630 phones. These are usually supplied through the dealer, who should have PDFs listing known compatible phones and noted compatability issues.
If the local dealer can't help, Votex (VW's official aftermarket arm, as far as I can tell) might be able to help. They emailed me a list before I got the A8 when the UK dealer network had no information. I think www.votex.de should work, I'm sure there's an English section somewhere.
