C6 RS6 in 2008 as a MY 2009 vehicle?
Autoweek is quoted as saying that Audi plans to build the RS4 for two years (2007 and 2008)rather than the three years quoted a few months ago. It has also been rumored that RS6 production will start once RS4 production ends. Might we be getting the new RS6 in late 2008 as a model year 2009 car? If so, it is over a year earlier than I expected.

Autoweek

Yes we are!
I just hope that the new RS6 is as good of a car as the B7 RS4. The RS4 feels like it was a high performance car designed from the ground up. The RS6 felt somewhat like a regular car with high performance mods -- somewhat of an afterthought -- an overwhelming great and fast afterthought, but an afterthought nonetheless. <Flamesuit on> If they can outdo the B7 RS4 with the new RS6, that will be close to the perfect car.

I test drove an RS4, and while its good, dont get crazy now
I mean it pulled harder at higher RPM's than my modded B6 S4, no doubt, had a nice exhaust note (but not nicer than my fullback Milltek), and had better steering feel (less numb), but it most definitely was not worth the price of *two* used B6 S4's. No-way, no-how; Also, the thing weighs almost 4,000 for crying out loud.
After testing it, I decide I preferred a used RS6. Of course I also have a lighter/smaller blown E36 M3 which produces ~420 hp, 300 ft lbs (in a flat curve), and weighs nearly 700 lbs less than the RS4, so I was looking more for slightly larger, more luxurious second car, and that swayed me towards the RS6 some.
I am still VERY hopeful that the new RS6 will be something special.....
EDIT - OOPS, I just saw you own an RS4. So I will reiterate: obviously a great car, better in all ways from a B6/B7 S4, but for ME, it was not worth the extra $$.

Both the RS4 and RS6 are great cars!
It's just a blonde vs. brunette preference - both are a little on the heavy side and either one will rock your world.

Re: AutoWeek of a few months ago speculated that the next RS6 would have 520 bhp and
I think the new RS 6 will have 550 hp and 420 or 435 lbs/ft of torque, courtesy of a high revving (8,250 or 8,500 RPM redline), normally aspirated 5.5L FSI V10 (possibly-but not definitely-with Audi's equivalent to BMW's Valvetronic and possibly-but not definitely-Audi's equivalent to BMW's "throttle intake butterflies"-whatever that is).
