I'm thinking that, from a "collector perspective," the RS6 really is quite similar to the original Shelby Mustangs. The early versions of those cars were "removed" from Ford's assembly lines for Shelby conversion; the conversion involved substantial mechanical performance modifications as well as relatively minor appearance modifications; the cars ultimately became highly prized since the production numbers were relatively low. Maybe most important, both were real driver's cars.
Of course, there are far fewer RS6s than Shelby Mustangs and the RS6 is more expensive than an original Shelby Mustang was back in 1965, but the "basic deal" is much the same.

rust protection
If my S4 is any indication, the body is never gonna rust. My car has 13 years of midwest and northeast winters under its belt and no body rust thusfar.
