My tab "disappeared" once but was fixed; no new grille
It happened when the car was new and I had the protective 3M film applied to my hood. Somehow the tab mechanism got jammed. But the film installers figured it out, fixed it, and it's been fine ever since.

If the tab on the grill actually broke, then they modded the grill somehow. That's the only way...
...to fix it. In fact, my RS6 tech said he'd do the same thing for me...once warranty coverage expired.
