Default A little off topic, but RS6 related:

Ok, looking back to the collector cars of the past, what do you think will be a collector car from the 2000's?

My definition of a collector car is one which sells for more (some times a lot more) than original sticker 10/20/30 years later. What is your definition?

Secondly do you think that the RS6 qualifies or at least has collector potential?

The reason I ask this, is there are guys that buy cars (Car Dealers seem to do it a lot) that have wharehouses full of cars with little or no miles. They speculate that a certain model 10 or 20 years down the road will make them more than they could in the bond/bank market. Or, they are just car nuts who love to collect...money not being the reason.

I would think that the RS6 falls into this catagory, especially if AUDI only does RS models once every 5 to 10 years and in limited number. Do you agree or am I off base?

You're right, in my view. Prolly M5s, too. Not so sure about AMGs, though.

Default You are probably right. But cars, like most collector items

are generally a terrible investment. The risk is VERY high to pick the right models, the cost to maintain is high (including insurance), and the payout has to be measured against this. Not to mention the collector car market is voliatile directly with the stock market.

Default Agreed.

Only those with a rare knack for choosing future collectibles will make money, and even they will be wrong at times. Personally I would look at it as a way to have fun and POSSIBLY make money on occasion, but no way to make a living.

Still, I would give the RS6 a better chance than comparable Bimmers or Benzes because ... well, when you consider AWD and limited production, they're really not all that comparable!
