Default Need a little help gang. has anyone here suffered ANY reduction in boost due to hi temps or other?

As we continue to try and diagnose what the hell is affecting my motor, my SM asked me if anyone else was reporting these symptoms..
So, have any of you noticed an unexpected reduction in boost while driving your beasts? If so, please explain..
Thanks!

Unexpected? No. Expected with higher temps? Which one, engine or outside temps? Engine, no.

Can do it consistently if I wind the car out too much and for too long at the track.

Default Hi outdoor temps = less boost, in any turbo.

I'm no tech but have read that turbos like cold, dense air. All three of my Audi turbo cars have performed better in cold weather than hot.

Default A little more info

The turbo can still make excessive boost in high temperature situations, but due to the higher ambient temperatures, the engine is much closer to detonation at a given boost level as compared to a lower ambient temperature.

Detonation occurs somewhere around 1075 degrees absolute, which is a a combination of ambient temp, heat created due to compression in the cylinder and heat created from compressing the air by the turbos. That's why a more efficient intercooler is preferred, it keeps your charge air cooler.

Therefore, the ECU see detonation earlier in higher ambient temps, so it backs off boost or retards timing.

Default My best answer is yes, i think so.

But i can't 100% attribute it to heat, vs the car just really being in the wrong gear.
