E55 rear wheel drive monster... fast.. faster than the RS6... awesome car, but not quite as fun to drive as the RS6. It's floaty. To get more power out of the E55, you need to swap out the pulley. Where as the RS6...all it takes is a chip to up the boost and fueling... I don't know why, but I see an older and successful guy who works wall street driving an E55.
RS6.. quattro.. gobs of grip...still very fast car...chip it and say bye bye to E55. I prefer the fit and finish of the RS6... I see an older and successful guy who's line of work is in science (engineer, doctor....).

I'm a financial engineer who worked on Wall street and now work on Bay street...guess that's why i'm confused :-)
Actually, i'm just fantasizing. I can afford either but both are a complete "waste" of money from a rational viewpoint.
But not everything in life has to be rational right? :-)

I have 2 MB's, both V-12's which are fast in their own right, (S600 and SL600), both N/A versions. Even the SL600 which should be a decent handler (key word: decent) are both outclassed by the RS6.
Now, an E55 in IMHO most resembles a 60's muscle car. MB wasn't going to be outdone in the HP wars so they developed a car that has terrific straight line acceleration but is too soft even in AMG guise. They cater to the 50+ crowd and before any of you 50+ jump on me about that statement, that's MB's target market. Try as they might, MB draws the old crowd, BMW draws the *****$ (hey, I have a right to say that as I owned one!) and Audi has a tendency to draw from the true enthusiasts crowd.
Add to this the climate mix I experience in Chicago and it's a no-brainer.
