Default On Star Backup Battery Failure

Hi, There are several posts on www.rs6.com about the On-Star Light turning red.

This appears to be due to the backup battery for the On-Star failing.

Anyone have info on where this battery is and if it can easily be changed without running to the dealer for service??

Default Red matches so much better!!!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Don't you think the Red light matches the car's other ambient lighting so much better? How often do you use On-Star anyway?

Did you press it to see if you got your car for free? Wait...that's a GM promotion...never mind!!!

Of course, because the light is red, and I'm leaving it red, one day when I really need it to work, it probably won't reach the On-Star customer service. But now I can reach them, for them to tell me to check with Audi Service!

I'll take my chances for being vain!

Its just one of the things. I just want to know where the battery is so I could change it if I decide to without a trip to the dealers.

I agree that the red light is much better than the blinding green light at night!

I hope to have the answer tomorrow when my new shop manual comes.

FYI your OnStar should work as long as your car battery functions. The back-up battery, failure-prone as it is (thanks to GM apparently), is there so that if you are in some awful accident or situation & your car battery isn't functioning, you'll still be able to get help via OnStar.

Found the battery location.

18 - Emergency battery -A16-
In front passenger's footwell

Easy to change, just have to get one.
