OK. Is it internal to the shocks or is it the mounting hardware?

My front clunk seems to be mounting related; rear STaSIS is thinking in the shocks.

Default Could front be suspension bushings?

Not only the rubber bushing where the shock mounts to the control arm, but also the other control arm mounting points have to be loosened and then retightened at the new ride height. If this is not done, additional stresses are placed upon the rubber suspension bushings which can cause them to fail prematurely. It is important in any car, that this procedure be followed whenever the ride height is changed.

In the rear, I believe there is a spherical bearing at the base of the shock that requires lubrication to live more than a short time. Spherical bearings are not conducive to a quiet ride if they wear. If that goes bad, you may be SOL as I believe it is pressed in? If it is not pressed in (meaning it's replaceable), I'd order up a bunch of them and make the replacement a part of periodic maintenance. This is how I deal with spherical bearings in the M3.
