I don't want to speak for RI RS4, but...
There's evidently a high level of fuel dilution in the oil. That is not good. Maybe related to the direct injection, I don't know.
Also, although this is a NA engine, it's high performance characteristics(talking compression ratio, etc) and 8250 redline is harder on oil. You've heard of oil shear from high revs, right?

High Fuel Dilution causes the engine to eat oil
Base and acid analysis extrapolation from multiple measurements show that the oil additive stock will be depleated somewhere between 5K and 10K depending on the oil. Using base total base analysis (TBN) Motul is extraplolating out to 12K, Elf Excellium to about 6K, the factory oil to barely 5K. This is mainly due to the acids resulting from high fuel dilution in the engine. We're getting somewhere between 1.5% and 2% fuel in the oil after 3K miles.

oil change intervals are standardized across the audi line
10K works well if you drive the car moderately, like most sane A4 drivers do. But, we RS4 owners tend to beat the hell out of the engine. If you read the oil change recommendations, it says to change it sooner under severe operating conditions, which it describes as stop-and-go driving, extended cold weather driving ... etc.
I'm not saying that all RS4s can't go 10K miles between an oil change, but with my driving style, and the oil analysis that I've done, it would be iffy for most oils. The engine would still see a good 100K mile life, but wear would be much higher than I'd like.
I'm doing some controled experiments on my car today, and taking multiple oil samples for analysis. I'll have the data processed by late next week and will report back. I'm working with Terry Dyson to try and determine the most likely cause of the fuel dilution that those of us who have had our oil analyzed see. When I post it, I'll also be presenting the data to Audi for their analysis, comments. At the same time, I may ask other drivers to participate and take samples for Dyson Analysis, so that we, as a group, can determine just how pervasive the fuel dilution issue is. It might just be my engine, or it might be all engines. Personally, I think it's somehow related to direct injection, but as of yet, I'm not quite sure how exactly.
