with all the mfgrs extending out their service intervals, it would look odd for Audi to suddenly change back to more frequent. It might give the impression of less reliability, or issues, silly as that may seem for the RS4.
I believe, in the case of the RS4 engine, it's somewhat of a risk. There is the warranty after all.

with Pcars however and I think the cost of a simple oil change will be significantly more than Audi. Oh well we'll see.

that oil changes aren't that big of a deal to do more often. Especially if you do them yourself, which I do.
As for the expense of having them done out of cycle at dealer, yeh, it can get a little expensive. Maybe try to find an indie mechanic who you trust for this simple procedure. Will probaly cost much less.
