advice about buying a used car across country
folks,
about to purchase a car from a private party in texas. i'm getting a ppi done on the car this week. i'm sending the owner a post-dated deposit check. if i can fly out from california to drive it home, i figure i can do the the bill of sale and title transfer in person and then have the balance of the total amount wired to his account.
but if i ship the car, not sure what to do. my gut says to ask him to send the title and bill of sale to california first - the car remains in his garage. and once the transport company arrives to pick up the car, then complete the wiring of the remaining funds.
any suggestions or advice would be uber helpful. thanks a ton in advance.

If this could happen soon and you are antsy to get the car, as I was when I bought mine, I would contact your transport co. ASAP. It took me at least a week to have the car picked up. You can ask them some of the questions you have also. I used Horseless Carriage and was very satisfied with them.

My man, I would drive the car back...I did this about 6 months ago when I bought my RS4. I drove it from San Antonio, Tx to Boston. The ride was INCREDIBLE! Just tape the front end up with painter's tape and you will be fine. Plus you don't have to worry about someone else damaging your car and it is MUCH cheaper.

+1. If you don't drive it home, it's like getting married with no honeymoon
