Default ALCON RELATED CLUTCH FAILURE BEWARE.

well I've had the alcon clutch for 1200 miles and starting on sunday when I slowed down and downshifted, the clutch would not disengage. It was a nightmare, I was stuck at an intersection and the car was stalled. Luckily with a little coaxing, I got it in first. I shut the car off and was able to manage shifting the gears. I scheduled to drop off my car at my mechanics shop. What I noticed was that the car would upshift but whenever slowing down in rpms downshifting was impossible. I was hoping that it was a master cylinder issue.
The clutch was taken apart yesterday. Basically the alcon and the cerumetalic material is so hard it had eaten into the pressure plate and flywheel material. Here are pics of the heat wear.

The bluish wear on the alcon clutch is the flywheel/pressure plate surface

Here is stasis description

". In a nutshell, this upgrade is a must for any RS4 enthusiast who drives hard or tracks their vehicle!

* Reduced MOI (moment of inertia) for better throttle response and drivability
* Fits standard OEM cover and Flywheel with no modifications
* Utilizes OEM throw out bearing for smooth maintenance free operation
* Sprung center hub dampens torsional fluctuations in the driveline"

Here's my take
" a must for the RS4 owner who uses their car greater than 75% of the time for track use, or to whom smooth shifting in stop and go traffic is not of any importance, and who loves chatter in reverse and 1st gears." which is never referenced in the product description.

I was having a discussion with Jared and he told me I caused this with trying to ride my clutch to make transitions smooth. I did this for maybe the first day, when I wasn't expecting the chatter, but he told me that was enough to do the harm and that he could not refund me for the clutch itself. For track school and track use this clutch is great. For everyday, waste of money and time. Do not do this upgrade unless you plan on upgrading the pressure plate and flywheel.

To date this is the worst waste of money I have spent on any car. I thought since I had purchased the big brake kit, and motorsport suspension, stasis would refund me at least fully or partially for the clutch out of courtesy, considering I am out $2-3k in labor and parts.

A view from below.

Default You caused it????? If you can drive on a stock clutch one way and this clutch doesn't mention...

anything about driving style, how can it be your fault? I'm guessing most would think that this clutch would perform at least as good as stock and better in other situations (like the track)? But, STaSIS is basically telling you that if you install this clutch in your car the car should only be a track car?

I can't wait to hear Bob's take on this

Default Exactly, in all truth they really should refund me plus cover some of the labor...

I had 17,000 miles on my stock clutch with maybe minimal signs of wear, but Jared told me that stock clutches were meant to last longer than this clutch. ????? I bought this clutch for it's durability, not for its destruction.

I already tried to sand off some of the bluish material to attempt to sell it after Jared's response

Default to sell it to someone who tracks their car and doesn't mind driveablity....

The alcon clutch didn't fail, it just ate into my other components, the flywheel and pressure plate failed.

Default I think you would need some special tools to get the pucks even. I don't believe eyeballing it...

Is the solution.

Sorry to hear about your problems.

I think the clutch might be sent out to some one to have the pads replaced.
