Am I crazy to trade in my RS4 for a 997 C2S??

one of my friends has an '05 C2S. I drove it a few times when it was stock, and then later with several mods (suspension, full exhaust, intake, wheels/tires). It's a great car, but I wouldn't trade my RS4 for it....even though it's $15-$20k more expensive.

and having to constantly make minor steering corrections at speed because of that. I grew up driving rear-engined, RWD cars (my first 3 cars were a '73 VW bug, a '69 VW bug, and a '56 VW bug...all modified), so if you had given me a C2S when I was 21, I would have LOVED it. But after years of driving front-engine AWD cars...that lightness in the front end bothers me a little.
obviously, for the money, you get a lot less in the way of options with any Porsche....they'll literally nickel-and-dime you to death. well not LITERALLY, but you know what I mean.
with the modified suspension (H&R sport springs) the car was just a little too rough for daily use, and was just a bit 'bouncy' over uneven surfaces.
I love the sound of the engine though, especially above 6000rpm, and with headers it sounds just insane....I'd probably be cruising around at 6000 all the time if I had one.
Cars at this price are generally all good in one way or another, and the C2S is no exception. I've always said this: when you get in a car for the first time to test drive it, you should know within 10 minutes if you want it. It sounds like you really like it, so go for it! Worst case scenario: if you hate it in 6 months, the depreciation is fairly minimal on P-cars.

the Top Gear video of the R8 vs. the C2S. The 997 C2S is a very fast and loose car. Requires a lot of attention in the corners. I found the C2S to be the purest sports car I have driven, although the GT3 is surely better in that regard, but much more expensive.

if i was buying $80k+ Porsche, the difference between a 997 GT3 and 997 C2S wouldnt be enough to sway me...
that $35-40k gap will drop significantly in the next 24 months as the C2S depreciates more and the GT3 holds for awhile. Remember that there are less than 1000 U.S. 997 GT3s, and in 2008, about 105 of them. In contrast, they probably sell that many C2S in any given month.
the 996 gt3 was not a daily driver, but the 997 gt3 could be...
just my $.02

I ended up going for the GT3 afterall. I'm sure I would have been happy w/ the C2S had I gone that route, but after searching the entire country I was able to find a reasonably priced (i.e., MSRP) GT3 with just the right options so the price did not get goofy (bi-xenons, full leather, and that's about it). Just how I would have ordered it
