Bunch of D3'ers run 19's in the winter no problems.

Default Yes, but.....

With quattro and ESP, there is no reason to go thinner and compromise dry road performance that much for the 98% of the time that there isn't significant snow on the ground. Remember, the amount of times you will actually be driving in snow so deep that a narrower tire will make a noticeable difference in a quattro/ESP equipped car is probably close to zero.

Default touche' Vijay. I just think that having snow tires in itself compromise..

dry road traction. That's why i don't go for all season tires. it's either snow or summer tires. changing set is breeze...thanks to makita impact wrench. just an opinion... goin back to the question, i think you can't go wrong Honer on blizzak. it has good tread life too. Blizzak for FTW. may it be 18 or on 19" rims. nokian snow tires are good too.

Default Depends on where you live in winter

snow is very heavy in high mountain and northern regions and is present a lot of the time.

Default I agree......I had the Blizzak WS 60 on theS4, LM25s and Dunlp 3Ds on RS4

The 3Ds have replaced the M3s. The Dunlops give the best handling and quietest ride on dry conditions...about 90% of the time even here in Boston. If I were living in VT, and needed a true winter tire, the Blizzak WS60 can not be beat, then again I'd have a serious SUV for the days I needed that. The WS have serious limits to their handling capabilities in the dry conditions in terms of stopping and cornering. However, there is a night and day difference between the LM25 or Dunlop 3Ds to the WS60s....A true winter tire verse a winter PERFORMANCE tire......

There are various threads on here giving both the advantages and disadvantages of 18 vs 19 inch wheels...

Default Nice thing about staying with 19s is you can get a second set of stock wheels for winter use. That's

what convinced me to go that way. Of course that only makes sense if you like the stocker wheels which many of us do. If you live in a "pot hole" heavy locale and get lots of snow, narrower 18s might make more sense.

Blizzak vs 3Ds not a factor in the descision IMHO. Other than price and availability, both are highly rated.

Default Cool. That is what I need to know. I just got a ski pass to Snoqualmie.

So it would be nice to rip up there in the mornings on a weekday to do a couple runs and then head back to work.
