One downfall of Bilzzaks are (and I don't know if this is still true but was ten years ago) was that the compound on the treads was different in the lower half so that by the time you were half way worn the treads were harder than original

I've run Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's on my 2007 RS4 in the stock 19 size for the last three winters-and I live at Lake Tahoe CA.
We get LOTs of snow all winter and I've taken winter ski trips to Whistler and Colorado and the 3D's have never let me down. They have amazing grip to the point where testing the break away point in the snow was becoming ridiculous.
The nice thing about the Dunlop's is the way they maintain great dry and wet handling to go with the snow performance. They aren't the equivalent as the PS2's of course-they'll squeal when really pushed but they go through any snow level. Even when it seems to be coming over the hood!
I wouldn't run any other winter tire on the RS4, best combination of performance and traction available.

Blizzak has changed it's formula from the former mixed compound to include the 3D siping as featured on the Dunlop Winter Sport 3D's.
The new Blizzak LM-60 replaces the other Blizzal winter tires and I just put a set on my S-Line Q5. No snow yet to report but they seem to hold well in the wet and OK on the dry.
A big step down from the Michelin Latitude Sport's which came with the s-line set up. The trade off was to be expected if you wnat to go in the snow however...

I just sold my RS4 and I have a set of AT Italia 18 with Dunlop Winter Sport Run Flats in 245/45/18 including TPMS. I just lowered my asking price to $800 if interested.
These were great as they offered better rim protection for pot holes etc and gave me a little better clearance for snow so I did not pan out quite as easy in deeper snow.
I work up at Lake Tahoe and this set up worked great going over Donner Summit.
Regards,
Tad

My first winter i had 19inch reps from Hartmann with wintersport 3Ds. These winter tires are amazing, and never let me down. The only time I ran into trouble was when we had 12+ inches up in VT and I was plowing through the snow. Amazing grip on dry for a winter tire, and very good handling for a winter tire. The problem with the 19" rims was the potholes. I banged up 2 rims in NJ on potholes, had them fixed only to dent another rim a week later.
Because of that, I went to the RS6 Rims with an older set of M3s. The M3s are even better in the snow than the 3Ds, but do not handle as well on the dry. My advice would be to go with the 3Ds on a set of 18 inch rims.
That said, I still have the 19" 3Ds with 1/2 winter season on them, on a set of 19" reps that need a little fixing...100 bucks you can take away the set. They also have the TPMS as well. I just need to clean out some room. I am located in Boston.
