With regards to your other comments, an enthusiast car, as both the M3 and RS4 are, must be compared, when all is said and done, as a total package. One will be better in some aspects, the other in other aspects. In the end, there will be a winner. The RS4 handliy trumps an E46 M3 in almost all regards. With the new car, it's a toss-up, according to most sources. I still contend that for most people, the RS4 can be driven harder with much more control and security than even the new M3.

Power is only ONE ASPECT of a performance vehicle. Any idiot knows that all-wheel drive will eat up power to the wheels as speeds rise and traction no longer becomes and issue. I have owned and driven high powered rear wheel drive and all wheel drive cars. There is absolutely no comparison in how much more useable and controllable the power is in an all-wheel drive vehicle.
