Is there a step by step DIY for this cleaning anywhere? I would love to clean her out but would like a little guidance. I'm not mechanically retarded but just not used to pulling engines apart.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!!!!

and tell them about your Carbon Buildup Problems. I called today to ask a few questions about the DRC recall and asked the representative how much information she had about the Carbon Buildup issue. She said she hadn't heard of it but she would make a note and that the more people that CALLED IN, the more audi would consider addressing the problem. She said that Calling into AOA was the most effective means of getting the issue heard by Audi. So those of you who have documented cases of carbon buildup should MOST DEFINITELY give them a call and state your case. That is our best hope of getting audi to address this problem.

Audi is aware of the issue, they don't consider it a problem and are investigating it...
they have sent techs around to look at specific cars (the owners wrote a letter)
they have also set up a working group to investigate, including some engineers from Germany
they also monitor the forums

I took my `08 RS4 in for the 25k mile service. It has all the symptoms of the carbon build up problem discussed in this thread.
Dealer is replacing the computer, which is apparently the new audi approved solution to the problem?
Anyone heard of this? Did it work?

I heard they do that because the new ECU is programmed to be less sensitive to the issues and therefore less likely to throw a CEL. Not sure if it's true but that's the rumor.

I'm told the engine will idle higher on start up to prevent the carbon problem... car comes back today. stay tuned...
