This happened a few times in the first two months. Twice I had to put in the security code becasue it thought it was being stolen. Last week it would not turn on and then magically came alive while on was driving down 93.
Took the car in for oil change, etc, and mentioned this. They found no problems, no fault codes. This morning it would not come on again. AAARRRGGHHHH!
Any ideas? TIA.

It could be as simple as a loose connection as James P. is suggesting.

worked, PITA, and they (AOA) had problems with that one. I don't remember who made it. They all look the same on the outside but not the inside. They tried to do a software upgrade on it and it didn't work. Mine was replaced back in November with the new one (I think Panasonic) and I haven't had any problems since then. I hope that helps some and good luck.

but there is newer software and newer hardwrae that makes a difference. No need to replace the unit, just get the newest software.

Would be great if you could offer some more details to confirm your statement.

and some people still WRONGLY refer to the RNS-E as "MMI".
For the sake of repeating something that has been posted on Audi websites thousands of times. The RNS-S is NOT, REPEAT NOT, MMI (despite the stupid startup screen saying MMI).
It uses different DVDs, is made by different companies, connects using only the infotainment CAN bus (not fibre optic MOST like "true" MMI), etc.
