Default I understand that...

to isolate a bad wire or coilpack, even a plug...in the diagnosis. Leaving in the parts that may still be bad is the thing that bothers me. They are assuming it's a bad connection, they don't know that.

Default You don't leave in bad parts - you change parts to help find the bad one - if there is one

It can be as simple as a loose connection - oil film - or something else - you don't throw away parts just to look good.

Sigh - I really don't understand how you can not see this.

As a ex Nuclear Weapons tech (Air Force) , Control Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer(HP) - perhaps all is this is just root to me.

Default LOL, and if he wasn't on warranty?...

you can bet that they would have happily replaced a coilpack and plug at a cyl that was misfiring.

You're not making much sense with your argument here, not willing to acknowledge a simple fact, IMO anyway. No problem.

But let's keep this relevant. We're talking about dealership car repair, not nuclear science or weapons systems. That said, I wouldn't feel good if what I think you're saying is reality. Such as a missile in a silo or sub going offline and the weapons techs saying "let's try switching the control panels, that outta do it."

Default Actually - in those cases you replace the unit but it is not thrown away - it is sent back to

be diagnosed at the lower component level

Default Okay...

I think we're getting off track here, but that's alright.
