mine hadn't worn all the way down to the sensors yet, so I don't know if they actually work.
my feeling is that by the time the pads get that far, you're already treacherously close to damaging the rotors...and it's not like you can just pull over to the side of the road and change your brake pads if the pad alert is triggered. Let's say, conservatively, it takes you a week from the time the pad alert triggers before you get a chance to install new pads (or have someone else do it)...I think that's potentially enough time to kill the rotors.
As far as aftermarket pads with wear sensors...I don't know of any. There is <a href="https://www.audiworld.com/tech/wheel26.shtml">this</a> tech article that shows how to finagle a Porsche brake sensor assembly to work with Stoptech brakes...might also work with the OEM RS4 brakes, I don't know.

Bob, I just got a set of Porterfield R4s and was wondering if they will trigger any warning
Frankly, I'm used to checking my brake pads every month, so I'm not really bothered by not having any warning for worn pads, but I would be pretty annoyed if I got a warning light/buzzer going off from not having sensors.
