Even though the fuel filter is not included in any scheduled maintenance interval (https://dl.dropbox.com/s/6vyrkdvj4uk...aintenance.pdf), I'm wondering if/when it would be a good time to replace it.
Have any of you done so? What were the symptoms you experienced beforehand and any improvements afterward?
When (mileage/years) would you recommend it to be replaced?
And are there any other parts that you have replaced even though they're not on the scheduled maintenance?

I see no reason to replace the fuel filter if Audi doesn't include it in routine maintenance. I also think that if and when the filter becomes plugged even a little bit, the ECU would trigger a low fuel pressure CEL.
On the human side of the equation, if a filter change is therapeutic for the owner - much like an oil change makes the car feel faster and run smoother - then it might be worthwhile. Oh the psychology of us car nuts!

Seriously - I don't think you need to change the fuel filter unless:
- you get a CEL
- you think there is an issue with the car stemming from the fuel filter
Have you posted on QW or AW? More traffic there.

There appear to be quite a few S4/RS4 people that report to have solved CEL and performance issues by replacing the fuel filter. For the cost and ease of replacement, it would seem to be an easy preventive measure.
