I got mainly for looks but definitely feeling an increase in torque. I read the stock intake was suppose to be good but after seeing it out of car it does not seem that way. Very flimsy and looks to be more restrictive due to size than the Gruppe M. I really need to get to a Dyno

<I>"The engine is a stock RS4 engine with identical internals to the RS4 available from Audi dealerships - even running a stock airbox and air filter"
"Engine output is rated at around 500 hp"
"The engine management system has been modified"
"The exhaust system is comprised of custom built headers and straight pipes; there are no catalytic converters and no mufflers"
</I>
Based on that info it sounds like the ECU and the headers/removing catalytic restrictions are good for 80hp vs anything to be gained from the air intake.

He had installed at his dealership who was mod friendly, They told him he got the CEL because of the increased air flow. So it would seem the Gruppe M is less restrictive. At least it was a cheap install, Cost me $75 at the performance shop I use. They were impressed with fit of it. Also told me it's working well along side my Tubi and Unitronic

Yes it could run lean. When the ECU receives the MAFS signal, there is only a finite (limited) range of fuel that it can adjust for. For example, it would be stupid for the programmer to allow the ECU to dump all the fuel that the injectors are capable of delivering, regardless of duty time, etc. There are several good reasons for this, not the least of which is protection of the engine in the event of a sensor fault. Back when I programmed ECU's (early-mid 1990's), the range was only a few percent lean or rich.

Seems like for the $$ they could have tried to match the RS4 carbon fiber weave.
