Have to hold the key to start now, something has changed, it's possessed...
Long time no post but this is one of the few dedicated RS4 forums for this query.
A few days ago I lost the ability to flick the key and let the starter run until the car starts on its own, like you normally do right? I now have to hold the key until the car starts, not like that is a problem but it is not normal.
More than that, the engine behavior at gearchange has changed, it hangs the revs when the clutch is depressed rather than dropping the revs very quickly.
It's almost like it has switched into some other country mode where the key must be held to start and the revs can hang a little for a smoother gear change, which is the effect it has actually.
The car has not seen the dealer for two months since CB cleaning. It's obviously changed somehow and I've seen nothing like this from searching so I'll open it up to the small but dedicated croud here for your thoughts.

I had the exact same symptoms
-revs hang
-no starter latching
-no cruise control
good news, $30 and 10 minutes...
clutch switch: pn 8E0 927 189 B
10 minute swap out, the upper one (engaged when clutch is released, NOT the one when depressed) on the left, next to the brake switch...
-remove 3 screws for the kick plate (one hidden in the fuse panel)
-disconnect switch
-push, rotate and remove switch (might need to depress the clutch a bit)
-reverse to install
I brushed some lithium grease on the pedal pivots while up in there
-revs hang
-no starter latching
-no cruise control

Will look into it or take it to the dealership.

Checked the cruise control after work yesterday.......doesn't work. Due to take car back next week for alignment after DRC and Supersport spring settling. Will get them to fix it then.
