How do they create the MATTE finish for the RS parts? Sandblast? Exhaust tips should be matte too...
I'm wondering what the process would be, and could other parts be made to match, like the exhaust tips, and possibly the wheels too. That would be my choice on the Daytona gray car, especially.
But how to they achieve that finish? Sandblasting is my only guess. Acid dipping?
I'm thinking if you could strip the wheels, sandblast and then lacquer them, it might be pretty sharp, if it was a close match to the rest of the matte trim.
Anyone have any ideas?

I think we are all on the same page. It is just some dyno's ie APR/AWE show AWD driveline losses at
as little as 8-15 % while others are 18-25 %. How the car is anchored, tire pressure , dynamic loading, ambient temps, humidity, altitude etc. all can have significant effects. I like most don't need a crying towel, I had amodded B5 (only stage 2)and loved it, the RS4 is really a different type of car. Truthfully for me it is a car I will very frequently use 100% of it's potential. Like my B5 and B6 S4's it is a wonderful car and plenty quick and fast for me. You do have to admit that there are for now more B5 Kablamo's (with overboost or overlean) than for the RS4.

They use a buffer wheel on my wife's platinum ring to restore the matte finish
It's got a matte finish that polishes itself shiny over time so we have to have the finish re-matted every 6 months or so. They just use a slightly coarse buffing wheel at the jewelers.

I imagine you could use a dremel or similar tool and do the same with the exhaust tips, or paint them matte black like the sport exhaust on the RS6 - I like that look.
It would be interesting to see what a matte silver finish would look like on the wheels...

considering your UID
I'd say you haven't been around that long to see whether there's been that many blown B5 S4 motors. I'm sure there's been a few but a lot of it's been from human error and mistakes, not because it couldn't handle insane amounts of power. (because it can)
