I think it's kind of lame that HRE doesn't include them.
Every set of BBS that I have bought through Tire Rack has included replacement bolts. It's probably due to a difference in cone vs. ball seat for the BBSs, but for what HRE is charging they can afford to toss in a set of wheel bolts and remove all ambiguity about the situation. Sheesh.

They could only get a little over two threads to engage.

It looks like you have more showing until you fit it on the drum, They showed me it would only catch a little over two threads. They had ECS in stock and these are the ones they sold me. these are supposedly oem???
they look like they are 2 part with some kind of seat...

hmm...maybe they changed with the 996.
I have a set of Porsche wheel locks, and they are lug nuts, not bolts. I used them on my TT, which had adapters to run Porsche 911 wheels.
