Huge problem with ESP on a wet track day, please help!

Re: that's interesting....
....Audi AG made us turn ESP OFF and drift the RS4s at the Catalunya Circuit in 2006 and the ESP would not come back on. I admit I have not tried the same in mine (our tracks suck)but I can tell you that in the ones we drove in Barcelona the ESP would NOT come back up and save you at all. We also drove the cars in pouring rain(and I mean a water curtain on the track) with ASR off and it worked beautifully for most. We were exiting the fourth turn at the Circuit at about 100mph on water.

Well as long as you don't touch the brakes it won't come on.
So yes in the wet, snow, ice you can power slide it, make donuts all day long and ESP won't intervene. The traction control portion of the ESP (except EDL below 50 mph) will not engage. All sensors like yaw rate, and steering wheel inputs are disabled.
However go in hot into a turn, whether dry or slippery and hit the brakes, then if ESP thinks you have exceeded its preset values only then will it try to "stabilize" the car.
A very easy way to see this and at very slow speeds if you have access to it is dry driving the car on a completely iced up track. I can assure you even with ESP deselected; you are going to get differential braking if you exceed the ESP's limits.
Now this said the B6/B7 cars' ESPs are a lot more tolerant and it is known that Audi tweaked them a lot more with better programming then the B5 series. Perhaps they did the same thing for the RS4 and upped the ante over the regular B6/B7 cars.
