5 cars sounds like RS4 territory.
I've had the opposite experience as you. When I was stock I was dead even with every M3 I raced. But since modded I pulled on one. My car has always run better than most also. Stock, it went 13.38 in the 1/4. My car has all the available mods and is lightened up a bit, scales at 3,680lbs.

showing up invited or announced won't be a problem
most Audi get togethers are just car guys anyway and respect other brands. most have owned BMW's and know they are great cars

there is one that is almost 8 minutes. I jsut watched it (more)
Drifting competition for the first 5 minutes, race in the last 3. IMO, the track part is what is most important and most revealing. The track was very damp to say the least and totally gave the advantage to the 4wd of the rs4. The race was much much closer that I expected it to be and might have even been a different outcome if it were dry. Id say, given my mods, I have the potential to take down a rs4 on a dry course. I would love to see/feel the acceleration of an rs4 on the street though. I also LOVE the fact that the RS4 is apparently UBER RARE. Thats a HUGE selling point to me. In my area, everyone and their mother has an m3...even regular s4s are far more rare than m3s here.

i owned a 2001 E46 M3 and a 2005 E46 M3 ... drifting isn't the only thing...
At low speeds, like under 35 MPH, the E46 M3 felt much more stable. In addition, the rear view mirrors on the sides were far superior to the B7 RS4.
However, that being said, that's pretty much all that I can say is actually better about the E46 M3. In every other aspect, performance, handling, value, EVERYTHING else, the B7 RS4 wins, hands down. It really amazes me to think that I was such a die hard BMW fan that I didn't realize how much more there is the world of automobiles.

My own personal experience E46 M3 and E36 M3 vs B7S4
For what it's worth, I purchased B7 S4 in August, got rid of '05 E46 M3 to do it. We've had 2 E46 M3's and 2 E36 M3's and desperately were looking for 4 doors and decent performance. We are very pleased with the S4, smooth shifting, nice rumble from the V-8, great fit and finish, love having 4 doors again. Yes, the E46 is a bit faster and tighter than the S4, but I was ready to trade that for 4 doors and smooth. Honestly, I have a 5 mile commute and don't care about faster and tighter.
We absolutely loved the E36 M3's, which were the 4-door versions. IMHO, BMW made a huge mistake not making the E46 M3 in a 4-door. Would have never gone to Audi if the 4-door M3 was available. Have no interest in the Bangle-ized version of the new E92 M3, looks more and more like a Honda or Acura all the time. The S4 brings back memories of the E36, obviously with many improvements and more HP. My only regret was not trying the RS4, but we weren't that keen on the extra $20k or so. I'm sure that I would have been able to rationalize the additional cash if I had gotten behind the wheel!!
