Default Lemon Law

I currently have a 2008 M5 and I'm looking to pick an RS4 to take its place. I found one on ebay that seems to fit the bill. The one drawback is that it was bought back under the lemon law in california. The reason for the buyback was carbon buildup at 13,000 miles. The valves were cleaned and the car has not had problems since. Currently 16,000+ miles. My understanding is that carbon buildup happens to these engines. Should I not buy this car based on that issue alone? Would the depreciation be greater because it has lemon on the title? Thanks

I would dispute the Lemon Law reference. Most Lemon Laws require at least 3 attempts to fix the same problem. There's probably other issues. Get a full service history before even offering up any $$$$.

Is the car being sold by a dealer? I would expect it to have a 100K service contract / warranty included.

yes I agree I would want full disclosure on what went wrong and even if it was fixed the carbon build up comes back. Lemon law is quite complicated so if they took it in for for that I would imagine there was multiple service visits and lots of info. Plus if you post the info of the car (color, last 4-5 numbers of the VIN) the member may be here. Also if this happened at 13k miles how come the car has 16k miles? They cleaned it at 13k and the prev owner drove it until it was take n back as a lemon at 16k? I mean for sure it should be CPO and still at a significant discount. Personally I would look at a huge discount off average price to make me really interested. Other than that I would walk. There are a fair amount of car showing up in auto trader. Keep looking and a car you like will show up.

cheers

Nick

Why buy a car that another person had lemoned? Thats asking for trouble as soon as the papers are signed.
