What should I ask the owner about maintenance, etc? I know he’s had it dealer-serviced over the years and pays attention but a quick list would be helpful.

For instance, I went through the “pull motor” pain to replace the oil filter housing coolant tube on my ‘00 A6 4.2. It was an “education”. ($$$)

i know about carbon cleaning, but what about it and other things like that?

Also if anyone wants to venture a guess as to a
price for a private party sale (assume outstanding condition), I’d appreciate that too.

Ask about when brakes were done. Very $$$ but probably done between 50k and 60k. Ask how often the oil has been changed, Ask if the suspension is original or has been replaced/upgraded from stock. And the all important carbon cleaning.

I have a 2008 convertible with similar miles. I am the second owner. The car had a LOT of maintenance done at 55k miles and I did the carbon cleaning at 64k miles. Mine has the original suspension/shocks but often they leak and peole have just gone to aftermarket coil overs.

As far as price, take a look at BringATrailer.com and do a search for RS$ cars that have been sold. That is going to be kind of the high end of pricing.

These are great cars, lots of fun, a bit expensive to operate and fuel mileage is not great. On the other hand, these cars have stopped depreciating from what I can tell and are getting a good following. Good luck.
