Default Bimmer gusy always do this...focus on the MSRP.

The options on all BMWs make the base price a useless gauge. I though long and hard about placing an order and waiting for a M3, but I knew that with comparable options to the RS4, it was going to be in the $70K WITH whatever dealer markup or I wait till closer to the end of this year or next year. Sounds like great car though.

Default For that very reason I won't even consider an M3, however

I think audi over shot the price point for the Rs4. Sure quattro is worth more but 10 grand more?

Default yeah I got confirmation of that this morning. UPDATE: base is actually less...

$56,500 for the coupe and $53,800 for the sedan. Add the $775 destination charge and you get the prices I posted yesterday.

The fully loaded car I ordered minus $475 metallic paint comes in at $69,420 but that doesn't included gas guzzler tax which hasn't been determined yet. Apparently, the moonroof is a no-cost option on the coupe but an extra $1100 on the sedan due to the coupe's standard CF roof if the moonroof is not ordered.

This is very competitive with RS4/IS-F pricing and while some may argue "no quattro, so not similarly equipped", I'd say they are as a similarly equipped as possible considering you can't get options like Comfort Access (keyless entry and ignition), HD Radio, electronically adjustable dampers, carbon fiber roof, power adjustable width seats, and extended surface leather on the RS4. An option that I find to be extortion is the "M-Audio enhanced premium sound" which is a stand-alone option priced at $1900. Way too much, but I'm a sucker for options.

Default with options, it's not going to be $10k less than the RS4.

the E46 M3 was $47k base, and over $61k loaded...this one's going to be significantly more than that.

Default why? people shopping for new cars generally don't cross-shop pre-owned cars.

do you think there will be many people trying to decide "should I get a new M3 or a used RS4"? I don't....I mean, we're talking about $15-20k difference in price, people won't be cross-shopping.

Is there a car available for $55k that is better than a 2-year old used RS4? Probably not...and that's what will determine resale value.

Default yup, fully loaded prices out to $69,420 without gas guzzler tax (to be determined)

I'd say the gas guzzler is probably going to be about the same the RS4's.

So a fully loaded M3 is only a few grand less than the RS4... but of course you can go nuts with the Audi customizations too like titanium package and custom interior.

It is nice that you can get a stripped-down M3 coupe for $58k and a sedan for $55k and change, not that many people would do that.

Default actually it won't even be a few grand less...

...in your example, $69,420+GG = $71,520 (assuming the same GG as the RS4, which IIRC was $2100). My RS4 w/prem. was $73,520 *including* GG tax. So they're $2k apart, and I would argue that quattro is easily worth the difference. You can keep your smart key, extended leather, and adjustable dampers.
