This does make sense. The residual for a 36 month lease is around 47%, so the depreciation hit is pretty big with the lease, even with a low starting price. I intially got a dealer to $65,000 with the lease, but the monthly payment was still mid $1300's. I think the way to go on these cars right now is to find a low price and buy (a couple of us have found deals in the $62K range), because if you get a 'used' price for a new car, you won't have to worry as much about taking a depreciation hit, as it has already been taken by the dealer. You may even develop some equity in the car....who knows?

I have quotes from three dealers right now on sedans whose MSRP is $73,785 on each car. My quotes currently range from $63,500 to $65,000. I am going to try to get someone down to $62k, but either way, I'm happy at $63,500 and plan to pull the trigger.
Also, I'm going to take this quote and use it as my cap cost in a lease through US Bank. If you have tier one credit, you can get a better money factor and they have a higher residual (49% of MSRP using 12k miles per year, whereas Audi Financial is 46% using 10k miles annually).
Also, it appears that Audi is giving $8k to the dealers to use to sell the convertibles, and they are giving $7k to help them move the sedans.
Hope this helps - happy shopping!

List is $57,760. Dealer offered $5,000 off and I said I'd like to get it for $49,500. They will be "sharpening their pencils" tomorrow and I be taking the car home overnight to see how I like it. This is a 6MT with normal options plus exterior sport package in light silver metallic.
I also made the mistake of driving a new RS4. Duh, what a nice car! Dealer has 5 in stock and the test car we drove had 198 miles on the odometer. When I said that was a lot he said the car had been on the lot for over 100 days.
Don't know if I can or want to afford an RS4, but it sure is tempting if they would sell one for around $63K. I'd probably go for the Mugello Blue, or the Avus Silver. The Black and the Daytona had the Audi Exclusive package + Titanium. The Sprint Blue was "new" but had 1000 miles on it. Someone "bought it" and then traded it back for a different color, but it was never titled? Weird.
