Or a real "dog" '04 G-car for the same price.

Default The only problem with the 911...

is that no matter what flavor, it will still look like a 911. Not that it is a bad looking car, but if you don't like it, well that's that. And even if you do, they are everywhere!

It's the used Gallardo that will trump it. The Lambo is known for being bullet proof, and the regular maintenance is not bad either. Both (R8 and Gallardo) will hurt you if you need a clutch. In fact, my local Audi dealer can neither order an R8 or service it. That means the Lambo dealer is closer and more convenient!

exactly. C4S X50 = 380 hp at base 108K or so. R8 makes 45 hp more.

Default My opinion of the R8 has gone up

I like the videos a lot more than the still photos. And I love the little things, like the LEDs in the engine bay (which were supposed to cost $6k but apparently are included standard).

If I had $125k to drop on a car I'd seriously consider the R8. I'm sure I could find another that goes 0-60 a few tenths faster but, as with all Audis, this seems much more usable and well-behaved than another exotic. And, as noted, it will be much more rare.

I don't need faster...I'm sure this would be fast enough. :-)

Default Seems like a tough sell. At that price/performance the competition wins.

At least until the big motor version of the R8 arrives.

Default the base price of the turbo is $122k

so actually the 6 speed is right between the C4S and turbo, or right on par with the GT3 or a C4S with X50 package. The R8 has more standard equipment and cheaper options.

Default Some of that extra 39hp will be needed to overcome the extra weight of the R8 FTL

R8 = 420hp. C4S w/X50 = 381hp.
