Default Ok.. how can I tell if my rotors need replacing?

My pads are low, the sensor never went off (not that I expected them to) and I just want to make sure my rotors aren't damaged before I change to aftermarket pads and have Audi claim that the aftermarket parts damaged my rotors. I have 26k mi on the car with only one day of track use.

Anything obvious I am looking for? Should I take a pic?

did anything make you go check them? if not, they're probably ok but:

rotors aren't that much $...why not go all out and do pads and rotors? careful with the aftermarket pads too, they might wear faster than what you're used to.

Nothing in particular. I just know my last dealer visit they told me that my pads are low and "Audi now recommends" that the rotors be changed every time you change the pads. Sounds like a scam to me since its not in any of the literature.

So before I changed the pads, I wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking something with the rotors.

Rotors for this car are around $800 set for the fronts

There supposed to be over 32mm thick to still be usable. Mine where 32.65 after 23k miles

So i just changed the pads, but i dont see these rotors making it to 35k

for that car and given your one track day, it's a reasonable to expect new rotors at this mileage imo.

$800 is higher than I expected.

It has been Audi and VW recommended practice for years to not turn rotors if their warped or out of spec in any way ..... Replace.

I don't think some that swing through our section know how much they cost compared to A4/S4 brake components.

You can do an entire brake job on most other models for the cost of our front rotors.

It's completely a matter of measurement and physical examination. If they appear to have bits of rust/pad material bonded to them, they're done. If you go to an aggressive after market pad also remember that they will likely have a break in layer which will abrade quite a bit of rotor to "clean" it prior to actualy htting the final friction surface.

EBC pads have this and will take a significant amount of rotor away during the bedding process. Other brands are similar. If you're close to the limit of the thickness keep this in mind.
