outside temp gauge calibration?

outside temp gauge calibration?
tonight my outside temp gauge was reading 91 degrees, but it was more like 80 out. In general it seems to a little off, but this is a lot off. Is there any way to calibrate it using vag-com or other?
Thanks

Mine never seems to find an acurate temperature. Does anyone know where the sensor is located?
I think heat from sitting, the engine, etc. are influencing the readings.
My car was showing 112F Tuesday after an hour on the road. I know that wasn't right.

Typically...
they are located in roof panels or pillars, or in front bumper area. I don't know about this car specifically, but should be the same as the A4. The Bentley manual would show where it's located.

The sensors on the A4 are located in the front bumper and low to the ground
this is why they will show higher temperatures as the temps near the asphalt will be higher.

Makes sense...
my Subaru is the same, tucked under the front bumper ahead of the radiator.
It should also be noted that they aren't a simple thermometer device, but rather they take values(ambient) which are then converted for the display.

Also depends on what temp you are comparing to...
If you are comparing your temp to a bank sign or something, it will likely be close given similar poor sighting issues.
If you are comparing it to an actual "official" temperature, unless you are driving by that site at the time of the observation, you could be considerably different.
Issues: The observation may have been taken close to an hour ago when you hear it so it may have changed considerably since then.
The observation site may be a considerable distance from your location.
The observation may or may not be an official observing location and may or may not also suffer from similar siting issues.
In short, the temp readout in the car is more of an approximation than a true reading.
Sensor proximity to the road is likely the biggest influence.
Eric.
