Default Painted front filler panel (plate) revisited - what's the latest wisdom

Talking about painting it to match the body color. I'm not crazy about the looks on a light colored car, but maybe dark colors are OK? That Honda Element cladding-style black plastic of the stock filler panel doesn't do it for me - it looks cheap on such a nice car. What do you think?

Default i think it should blend in with the grille...

...i.e. it should be flat black regardless of the color of the car. The bumper is a weakness in the design of the grille...why emphasize that weakness by painting it body color or putting metal strips on it?

Default Well if the grill is a weakness

(and I agree that it is) then the body-color filler breaks up the gaping fish-mouth, no? Interesting that we both agree on the weakness but have opposite ideas on the remedy.

the grille isn't a weakness, the *bumper strip* is the weakness.

I wish the "bumper strip" could somehow match the mesh of rest of the grill

I don't like the look as well but I have opted to order the Euro plate insert.
It does a nice job of breaking up the sight lines.
I'm waiting for a non-plastic after market grill option!
