RS4freak86,
Have you found your RS4 yet?

I'm also in the market for one. I just signed up and just want to say good luck on your search.

I decided to hang onto the m3 for a little while longer. I am going to wait until the spring to decide what I would like to do.

Hi all. I signed up to this forum just to respond to this thread! lol

Anyways, I'm also a E46 M3 SMG owner (SMG is the single-clutch automated sequential manual gearbox for those who are not familiar) and live in Canada (so crazy winters).

I also will be switching to a "all season practical sports car" sometime and and as soon as I can afford to I will be getting a Z06 with all the bells and whistles (Z07 package, magneto shocks, traction control etc) as my crazy summer / track fun car.

Contenders for the "practical awd sport car" have been the 2011 (or newer) WRX Sti and Evolution MR, and more recently I have started giving serious thought to the RS4 (having ruled out the S4 for looks, engine and the RS5 for un-practicality, and both for lack of soul). R8 is a dream car...and will remain a dream car till I can afford one. But the day I can afford an R8, I will likely get a LP570-4 Superleggera anyways to replace the Z06

Anyways, it's strange to be thinking of switching cars. I only had the M3 for 8 months now with less than 5000 km on it, and I have a full exhaust sitting there ready to be installed...$4000 worth...for an amazing 30HP gain ....but mostly for the sound

Good luck on your RS4 search. I will be trying to find one to test drive....

Would be interesting to see that combo...RS4 + C6 Z06. I love the Z06. Just so awesome.

You'd have a double widebody garage.

Beautiful car. I had the exact same M3 (E46) before I sold it and bought my RS4. best decision I ever made. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed my M3, when it was running right. I had so many issues with it that I gave up on it and sold it. I love my RS4 way more. not because of all the issues I had becauise I did enjot driving my M3 but this has so much more to offer. I feel like I have so much more control, it's faster, the quattro all wheel drive makes the handling phenomenal. Were talking 420hp compared to 333hp and the same brakes that they use on the lamborghini Gallardo. I have nothing negative to say about this car other than maintenance costs more than average BMW or AUDI. But from what I have experienced and heard from other people, there are not a lot of issues at all with the RS4 other than the carbon cleaning. Let me know what you decide if you haven't already.

I have a huge internal debate between a bran new WRX Sti vs a RS4 with anywhere from 40,000 to 70,000 km depending on how much I am willing to spend for km.

Are there any major RS4 maintenance milestones like there are on the E46 M3 at every 50,000 km?

Any major known costly failures? If not, I'd be willing to take an RS4 with a few more km (say between 70 and 90,000 km).

Default rs4

Hi silverflake
As far as I know the engines in the rs4 are bulletproof, you have of course do the regular oil and filter change. The suspension recall on those cars was a big issue so you want to make sure your candidate has already passed that process. I myself had the lancer evolution X and drove the sti before buying it. Evo drives better and Subaru has better interior.but none of them compare to the feel and quality of a German car.even if it is an older model.
I am in the process of maybe selling my rs4 since I already ordered my new s6 but let me tell you that there is no better groan that the one inside that engine. My car is 40k miles so about 64k km.all major services done,exhaust,rs4 European steering. Clean as you have no idea.pm me if you want more info,if not good luck with your search
