Default that's a torque curve for a stock motor, though.

opening up the exhaust would change it...for the better, I hope.

Default Unfortunately, the shape of the curve is generally set by the intake

The intake is tuned like two organ pipes, one that peaks torque at the low end, and another that peaks torque at the high end. This is controlled by a flapper valve in the intake manifold.

Exhaust can shift the curve up (or down), and a tuned exhaust header can create some new peaks. But in our case, we are only improving flow, not tuning the headers. It's doubtful that exhaust would have any impact on top end torque peaking in our engines. And I certainly do not see it in any dyno runs, or in our MAF plots.

Default What I mean is...

RS4 is NA therefore does not have a huge peak torque in the mid-range that dramatically falls off. Relatively speaking, it is flat compared to say a turbocharged vehicle.

Point is when you have huge mid-range torque there are definite benefits in changing gear up shortly after peak HP, given you will shifting the engine speed down to an area that has substantially more torque. Of course gearing plays a role here too, but combine the flat torque curve with gearing factor, and there will always be a benefit in being able to rev the RS4 engine that extra 200RPM or so...

Look at the torque @ wheels delivered by gearing for each gear, like was posted a few weeks back. It becomes apparent revving the engine to redline is the best course of action for maximum performance (assuming the ECU would allow WOT to redline).

Got it. I agree. You want to maximize the torque delivered to the wheels in all gears.

Then I would use 5th. In most cars it's 4th.

Default Does your car actually rev to a claimed 8250 RPM?

What's the highest RPM stamp you've ever seen?

Default Australian RR Dynos are typically heartbreakers

I'm personally not a fan of RR dynos - hub dyno is what I always use...

Yes hub dynos give higher readings but you get a true representation of the engine torque/power curves and the results are more consistent. RR dynos have too many changing variables that can affect results...
