I found this youtube video on bimmerpost. I was surprised at the rs4 vs r8 race. Rs4 got a good jump and took it allthe way...

http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=159342</a

The R8 is somwhat of a boutique car. Considering it's a 2 seat GT design, I'm surprised it's not terribly fast. An engineering feat, but it seems Audi forgot some performance.

let's inject a little reality here. these are street races in mexico and have no bearing ....
...whatsoever on performance of the cars themselves.
no way an RS4 is quicker than a lighter car with the same motor (reputedly with more than published power). this is all about the drivers. nothing is controlled. it's amateur-land. i don't buy the M3 getting spanked that bad either.
low 4's, 0-60, not terribly fast (sic, read "quick". "fast" is top speed, not time to speed.)? gtfo. which performance metric are you saying it's short on? having driven RS4s and R8s on the track the same day, there is no question about the performance of the R8.
and when it has a V10TT and is still priced well under the supercar competition and performs in that tier, its gonna be even more ridiculous to write it off.
disclaimer: i don't own an R8, nor do i want one. just sayin.... street drags as metrics?

Drag racing fails, but the engines make the same power. The RS4 appears to make more torque...

Not talking about a race, but's its power and 0-60 time of 4.5
that's basically a toss up with an RS4.
Yeh, a V10 would do the trick.
As far as 2 seat GT cars go, look at the Ford GT, 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds.
And for RS4 and M3 owners, better keep an eye out for the new CTS-V, 0-60 3.9, handles incredibly, all for < $60k

of course, all those things are factors, but i'm saying that in my experience....
...with both - extensive with RS4 as owner, and limited but relevant on R8 - there is no way that the street races originally posted are indicative of the actual performance of these cars under controlled apples-to-apples conditions.
show me an analysis that illustrates how the tranny and gear ratios of the RS4 best the R8 in a quantifiable way, and i'll consider further discussion.
and all that aside, drag races are near the bottom of the list for things to consider when comparing cars. especially when it comes to making a purchasing decision.
